ROSE LAW FIRM JOINS VETERANS BENEFITS PROJECT 4/30/2009 Rose Law Firm has agreed to partner with the Pro Bono Institute and the National Veterans Legal Services Program ("NVLSP") to provide much-needed assistance to the thousands of service members with disabilities returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. NVLSP's latest veterans’ initiative – Lawyers Serving Warriors – will focus on the complex disability issues faced by veterans who have served in the conflicts in Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (Iraq). Service members often need, but are unable to access, representation in the medical evaluation process, which takes place prior to their separation from the military and which determines whether or not an individual service member and his or her family qualifies for many types of federal disability benefits. Veterans whose requests for benefits are denied by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs may appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. However, it’s a prohibitively complicated process, and most applicants cannot afford an attorney. The NVLSP takes on what it determines to be the most meritorious cases, and connects the veterans with lawyers who will handle the appeals pro bono. Through this program, Rose Law Firm attorneys will have the honor of representing these veterans whose benefits claims were denied. Ryan Solomon, a litigation member, is the coordinator of the firm's Lawyers Serving Warriors project.
