Experience

  • Through the use of generation-skipping trusts and planning to qualify for installment payment of estate taxes, facilitated the transfer of operating businesses down through two generations without a forced sale or liquidation.
  • Successfully overturned on appeal an IRS finding that a widow did not materially participate in farming operations for special use valuation.
  • Coordinated the sale of substantial farm and timber holdings held in multiple family trusts to a government conservation agency.
  • Drafted and successfully implemented numerous shareholder agreements keeping family business interests in the family.
