Brant has many years of experience advising high net-worth individuals and owners of family businesses in tax planning and estate and succession planning. Families have sought his advice for multiple generations and have seen firsthand effective estate plans implemented. His counsel and judgment are greatly valued.

Experience

  • Through the use of generation-skipping trusts and planning to qualify for installment payment of estate taxes, facilitated the transfer of operating businesses down through two generations without a forced sale or liquidation
  • Successfully overturned on appeal an IRS finding that a widow did not materially participate in farming operations for special use valuation
  • Coordinated the sale of substantial farm and timber holdings held in multiple family trusts to a government conservation agency
  • Drafted and successfully implemented numerous shareholder agreements keeping family business interests in the family
